Khodorkovsky: The EU’s new politically correct victim

Mikhail Khodorkovsky is the new human rights darling of the EU after his "unfair convictions" for money laundering and other financial crimes. Part of the sympathy for Khodorkovsky could be the idea that NO billionaire should be sent to prison, let alone stand convicted for crimes. Also - we hear the same bunch that always stands at the ready to pounce on Russia over some ginned up "controversy" like the convictions against Khodorkovsky - as some "evidence of Russia backsliding."And - AI should know better, as millions of Americans are unfairly and unjustly convicted also, as well as suffer discrimination, including in travel and immigration, due to criminal convictions. Well - no billionaire should suffer criminal convictions like the rest of us?Now EU-Russia relations, which are growing in a positive direction - should now be set back over ONE crooked billionaire?This is where the REAL outrage lies !

Human Rights reform in Russia could make it a really great power

As the US wains and shows its true colors as an opponent of human rights in the "war on terror" we could see new human world champion. Like HRW, this Author would like to see the eU, but, due to American hegemony, this might be far off. A human rights world champion could be Russia, which is really working on human rights reform "projects," even as reforms are slow.Russia could be the next advocate of human rights - as the US's leadership is discredited and the EU is hamstrung by American hegemony.
