Islam moral panic

The French State and its abusive reactions to Toulouse shootings.

fuk.france

Already - we are seeing the "arrests" of "members of an 'Islamist network'" on the part of the French State. We are also seeing the arrest of the gunman's mother. The reality is that these so-called "Islamist networks" could be nothing more that religious study groups that the gunman was associated with...If there was a threat of "terrorism" against the French State, why not act before the violence? Why? The threat from "Islamist networks" is probably non-existent and phony, just as the claims that the gunman was "an al-Qaeda operative." While Sarkozy takes political advantage of this horrible violence - I will likewise take advantage and a I have spent late last night starting a case study on how the French State is now collectively punishing the French Muslim community for the actions on a lone gunman!

Faulty and biased terrorism studies field behind NYPD’s radicalization model

nypd

The NYPD’s “radicalization model” and its spying program grew out of the Orthodox terrorism study field that has been viewed in the past of shoddy social science, using labels and anti-Muslim narratives. The Orthodox terrorism study field that gave us the NYPD model is state centric and cares little about human rights, like religious freedom and freedom of expression. This article uses Critical terrorism studies to explain where the NYPD gets its model and the notion of “radicalization.” It is actually “radicalization” and its definitions and uses that emboldened the NYPD to its massive spy program. The use of the NYPD “radicalization model” must be forbidden in liberal democratic societies and the human rights of the public protected from abuses that come from this “radicalization model.”

Part One: Dutch misconceptions of “free expression”: The Theo van Gogh murder

Theo - the "free expression martyr" - the bum himself!

Part One: The Dutch also have a horrible misconception of what “free speech and expression” really mean and paired with the lack of shame and stigma, the country has accepted the idea that hate politics are normal. Part of the Dutch misconception over “freedom of expression” stems from the wrong and silly notion that the murder of Theo van Gogh was an “attack on freedom of expression” by a private individual, Mohammed Bouyeri. However, “free speech protection” is actually in relation to individuals, groups and governments, not between private persons and groups. The brutal murder of “Theo” is viewed as some kind of “attack on freedom of expression” and there is almost a set of conspiracy theory-like notions among Dutch “counter-terrorism experts” that “Muslims” represent a threat to the democratic order of the country. Take this post as part of future projects to explore Dutch counter-terrorism and the possible repression of Muslims’ political rights and human rights by Dutch counter-terrorism apparatus because of “Theo’s murder!” Pim Fortuyn: The Villain that became a Hero

The rise of Pim Fortuyn and how he was able to dupe the Dutch people into going against their own traditions has been the subject of research, as has the 2002 Dutch elections that are described as a "seismic shift" in the Dutch political landscape. The 2002 Dutch elections and Fortuyn's campaign forced the mainstream parties to adapt more punitive measures against immigrants, especially Muslim immigrants. Many of Fortuyn's ideas, that Islam is a "backward culture," Muslims are "intolerant of Gays and women," that "Islamic values are incomparable with Western values," are hateful notions that been seen today in the dirty business of professional Muslim bashes in their promotion of dividing communities, promoting religious conflict, exclusion and violence. In the quest to understand the horrific changes in Dutch society that are pushing it toward more social exclusion of Dutch citizens that practice Islam, - especially in Dutch counter terrorism practices - it is important to understand the role played by Pim Fortuyn in the destruction of the Dutch tradition of tolerance. Part of Fortuyn's attack against his own country's tradition was to adapt "clash of civilizations" mentality and define Dutch Muslims as threatening to Western and Dutch values. I present in this essay only a fraction of the materials that studied the sad and awful rise of Pim Fortuyn.

Wear my ACLU tee-shirt tomorrow, September 11, 2011!

I will wear my ACLU shirt on the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks. This is a statement against the abuses that the 9-11 excuse have brought. The September 11th attacks mark not just a horrible attack, but the real onslaught against our freedom, liberties and human rights. It also marked an onslaught against the human rights instruments and institutions Europe built after WWII to protect individuals against government abuses. While the September 11 is a National Day of Service and Remembrance - it should also be an International Day for the Fight for Human Rights.
