Europe’s militarization of natural human migration
While the noble ideas of "bringing democracy" and "protecting civilians" are the reasons for European military action against the Muammar Gaddafi regime - the real reason could be the so-called "immigration threat" from Africa. Europeans have now entered a new and dangerous level of the growing securitization of immigration - going to war against nations outside of Europe to "stem an immigration emergency."

Good for France, UK, and US against Gaddafi
The largely French-led action against Gaddafi, with participation by the US, is the right thing to do that is neither illegal, nor an "invasion."

When is the time for the EU to act?
We should have thought the the Lisbon Treaty would embolden the European Union to develop its defense and military capabilities. The case of Libya could have advanced the EU's common security and defense policies. We are waiting - but could the UN resolution authorizing a no fly zone help push the EU in the right direction? Can we actually trust a ceasefire claim from Gaddafi?

Will EU take the next step in Libya?
The EU has been treading toward an independent military capacity for some time in peace support missions. With blessings of the Security Council, it is now time for the EU to take its military and defense policy a step further in Libya.

Murfreesboro to Munich: Western security and Cameron’s Islamophobia
While people in the Middle East fight and die for freedom and democracy - Islamophobia and the phantom of "European jihadists" continue to be pumped up by Islamophobes, David Cameron. While the myths of "Islam is a threat to democracy" are being seriously challenged by democratic revolutions in Arab-Muslim countries - cranks like David Cameron want to continue to drag up the phantoms of "European Islamist terrorists" to demonized multuculturalism. Claiming that phantom "European Islamist terrorists threaten our liberal democratic values" - we should see that it is actually David Cameron that is a threat to all of our liberal democratic values --- for this kind of speech is a call to yet again attack the freedoms and liberties of mainly Muslim citizens. Look for more burka bans and labeling of minority Muslim communities as "threats" and "radical."Now - young Arab Muslim democracies can challenge this European Islamophobia by establishing societies based in freedom, including religious freedom - and take the European Islamophobia problem to the international community institutions, like the United Nations. In the end, people like Cameron are the real threat to our liberal democratic values of freedom and tolerance! We must resist this tread to wrap up "Western security" in the discourse of Islamophobia and irrational phantoms of "European jihadists threatening our liberal values."

EU on side of democracy protesters in Egypt?
I am glad to wake up this morning to find a more positive moving European Union for the democratic revolution in Egypt. Let's hope that the EU does the right thing, thinks on its own and not for Israel and the US interests. Yes - it's time for the EU to step up for European values and advocate democracy in Egypt - as the Community did in 1989 for East Europe. The EU can bring democracy and stability for all people in Egypt - as especially the experience from the end of the Cold War demonstrated...
