Religious zealots disrupt Islamic forum in Amsterdam It’s the reaction of Wilders supporters that is also crazy
Tea Baggers and Salafist zealot-crazies? Here in the US we know how the Tea Baggers disrupted townhall meeting to the point of police having to hall some off to jail. The other night, during a debate on Islam in the Netherlands in Amsterdam, about 30 Salafist zealot-crazies became combative, spitting and throwing eggs. So – is this what “jihad in the Netherlands” looks like?!
Second, the crazies attacked prominent Islamic activists who were present to debate an inclusive future for Dutch Muslims. Tofik Dibi, the GroenLinks parliamentarian of Moroccan decent, was hit by several eggs. When the Salafist zealots demanded Dibi leave the stage, he refused, and at the insistence of another guest, Canadian writer and Muslim activist Irshad Manji, the debate continued. Tofik Dibi is an impressive fellow and role model for Dutch Moroccan youth – and stood his ground after the attack by the Salafist crazies.

As you might guess, Wilders supporters think that these handful of crazies “speak for all Dutch Muslims and all Muslims.” Such is very far from true. To Wilders’ extremists, this incident is all the more reason to ban the Koran, close Islamic schools and deport Muslims. Over 30 crazies from Belgium? Rather than being propaganda points for Wilders’ supporters, this outburst by Salafist crazies from Belgium condemnation got a strong from Dutch and Belgian Muslims. Patima Fatima - the former of those sleazy criminals who earlier frustration / hate pouring into a kind of reborn attitude we have seen the light. Hijacking of our beautiful religion of Islam by such illiterates, it just make me furious!
The threat is not from a handful of religious crazies who find no support among average, rational Muslims – but from the PVV andf Geert Wilders. Wilders and his PVV brownshirts are the real threat to democracy and freedom in the Netherlands. Over the past year, there have been attacks on mosques, including a dud bomb planted at a mosque in Almelo where two men were arrested.
PVV brownshrits have been loose in the Netherlands issuing threats against Wilders’ critics and opponets. This included the removal of a cartoon depicting Wilders’ as a concentration camp guard. It is outrageous that a national threat against the Netherlands should be taken from a handful of crazies when PVV brownshirts have threatened public speakers and had them uninvited from speaking events because they dare criticize Wilders and the PVV. There is simply NO comparison of this event to what the PVV has been doing this past year in squashing freedom of speech of opponents and critics in the Netherlands (Free Speech in the Netherlands – PVV style!)
