France like the Nazis – but so is the Netherlands
It is about good God’s time that we see the European Union and the European Parliament get off its collective lard duffs and put a stop to the disgraceful anti-Roma actions of the last few years! As we know – unless you are in a cave – Italy has been persecuting the Roma for more than two years.
Yes – and its, as predicted, catching up with the European Union’s external, foreign policy ambitions. It was right for Turkish ambassador to the EU, Selim Kuneralp, to raise the utter hypocrisy of the EU as pointing its finger at the world’s human rights abusers, but tolerate Roma persecution, as well as increasing radical Islamophobia that has lead to burka bans and, or course, the growing challenge from Geert Wilders and the PVV.
What the Turkish Ambassador was paying a complement to was to Viviane Reding (Justice commissioner) and her stand against France’s inhuman actions against the Roma. In all likelihood, France and Sarkozy are going to court — and its about good God’s time that the Commission take a Member State (France, Italy, Hungary) to court for infringement proceedings against the abuses of Roma EU citizens, especially. Yes – European values demand it, and part of the reason why the European Community came into being was to put an end to violence and abusive actions against whole groups of people. The Union may have to prepare for strong action against a Member State in the future, given the radical Islamophobia and extremist political parties – some which may come to power in the near future. Part of the Turkish concern is the rise of the radical right and the threat it could pose to people of Turkish origins, as well as others, such as in the Netherlands. The future concern is, indeed, whole-sale human rights abuses against citizens of Turkish origins or legal resident populations by radical rightists.
“I regret the interpretations that are distracting attention from a problem that must be solved now. I in no way wanted to draw a parallel between World War II and the actions of the French government today.”“I instead defended, in the name of the [European Commission], the principles and values on which our European Union was founded.”
Ths Nazi comparisons are not only correct, but needed, given the rising threat of violent right-radicalism infecting Europe. We now have governments in power that are willing to behave like Nazis to appease the radical right and gain votes. It is the rightful place of the European Union to take steps to put a stop to it and restore peace and safety to all Europeans.
