EDL riot in Bradford, free speech, and courage to stand against hate

In Bradford on Saturday, the real courage was displayed by the good people of Bradford, including the Muslim community, against EDL radical thugs. Despite a ban on a march, the EDL tried to march anyway- and the police displayed tremendous courage. Minority youth displayed courage in not engaging in violence with the EDL radicals. Pamela Geller comes out in support of EDL radicals and their attack on police and attempt to bring violence on Bradford's community. The intent on the part of right-wing "free speech" hypocrites, the Geert Wilders ilk, is to advocate "free speech" to yell obscenities to people in the street, political celebrities like Wilders and LePen abuse "free speech" to whip up hate and fear of an ethnic-religion minority and advocate policies that would take away freedoms from hated groups.

Liam Fox and his silly”Gaming Patriotism”

Liam Fox complains about the latest addition of Medal of Honor in another episode of silliness from a Heritage Foundation-type, right-winger. The fact is that one can play a Taliban (or a Soviet or Nazi or terrorist) in some of today's combat sim games, which has been a reality since 2001...as far as I know. Now - what business is it of Dr. Fox what grown adults, the majority of them probably military veterans, play in their own homes, anyway? (Kids generally don't like combat sims due to the realism.) This is yet another lecture from a right-winger that likes to lecture us about "free speech" and "free expression" for themselves on the "patriotic right," but not for others. As a long-time gamer of the Operation Flashpoint game (OFP), I find such moral judgments as ridiculous and silly. I have played enemy, but most often Americans are not a part of my game. As a Russian player I have shot at Georgians, but also Soviets, and I have played a Dutch soldier most times. I don't see any emotional attachment - and those who do must have a freaking mental problem! Yep - you just need "gaming patriotism!" Which is perhaps Liam Fox's real problem or should he give a game like OFP "a go" and play a Challenger tank commander, SAS operative, Royal Marine or fly a Tornado jet(?)! He just might find it fun!Anyhow - this Thatcherite twit needs to keep his fascist, "gaming patriotism" nonsense out of my gaming life!

Wikileaks: Pentagon and Swedish servants tried phony’rape charge’?

We should have seen this coming against Julian Assange - a probably phony 'rape charge' out of Sweden - which could mean that Assange could be arrested in the EU.Why could the Swedes be cooperating with the Pentagon against Julian Assange and Wikileaks? Well - we do need to find out - but it could first start with the Swedish Swedish Supreme Commander Sverker Göransson touring the US and meeting Pentagon officials in the first week of August.NEWSFLASH -no 'rape charge'- the Swedish Prosecutor's office issues a statement that there is little reason and no evidence to hold Assange - and has released him. What could this mean? A ploy - or has the Swedish government seen the wisdom and possible consequences of Please America First policies and actions? We shall see...but the Wikileaks founder should expect more dirty tricks from the US and its European servants in the future..!

Religious Freedom, the Radical Right and the New York Mosque

The attack on the right of the New York Muslim community to build Cordoba House community and mosque demonstrates just how much the radical Right (Western Taliban) support freedom and liberty for all. Now, there have been several articles published that point out how those of the Western Taliban- Republicans and the radical Right are exploiting the issue.President Obama needs to be congratulated for both his convictions and having some kind of spine that most Democrats seem to lack these days. The issue of religious freedom for Muslims is easy, but this is about standing up to the radical Right, which threatens our freedom and democratic way of life, from New Amsterdam to old Amsterdam!

Protection of Human Rights from Tyranny of the Ballot Box

As we here in the US know, Proposition 8 in California has been, rightfully, struck down. The challenge by opponents and action to affirm the rights of Gay minorities indicates the strength of American courts to challenge and defeat discriminatory measures, especially referendums. This is something that is lacking in Europe, in the European Union, where there are plenty of human rights conventions, but weak and ineffective courts and legal institutions. As a result political animals like Nicloas Sarkozy are taking advantage of the situation by proposing burka bans and actions against the Roma people in France - even as the Council of Europe states these measures are illegal. In Europe - as we know about the Netherlands - the safety, security and human rights of Dutch Muslims are held hostage to election outcomes. This is about the same in much of Europe, as Europeans place more value on "free elections" than freedom and absolute human rights for ALL!

English Defense League planning pro-Wilders action in Amsterdam

The English Defense League thugs are now planning a pro-Wilders march in October in Amsterdam. These thugs have terrorized the UK all summer with their "street armies" and some have even been caught plotting terrorist attacks against British Muslims and their mosques. When this dangerous street army of football hooligans, skinheads and right-wing terrorists heads for Amsterdam to cause general disorder - there could be real terrorism and violence against Dutch people, especially Dutch minorities in their own country! NOW - will the European security and law enforcement apparatus now come to realize what the REAL security threats really are - and STOP pumping scarce resources at small and even non-existent "Islamist radicalization?!"This Author has said - in spades - that the real threats to our freedom and physical safety come from the right-wing radicals, not the few "Islamists" our there in Yemen or Pakistan. More efforts need to be put behind combating the the PVV, EDL, Wilders, and violent Islamophobia. The Dutch government should ban EDL members from entering the country in the name of safety and security of its country from this invading army!
